UPROOTED Theatre is proud to announce the launch of our Family First Matinees.  On Sunday, May 27th, parents & guardians may bring their children (ages 3-15) to our 2pm matinee performance of HAIR, NAILS & DRESS.  The children will be taken to a private room to play theatre games and create art projects while their parents & guardians enjoy the show.  There is no charge for the children to participate.  It’s important to UPROOTED that busy parents
& guardians can take the time to enrich their lives with live theatre.

2011-2012 SEASON

November 7th. 7pm. ~ A LESSON BEFORE DYING by Romulus Linney and The Southern Writers’ Project, based on the Pulitzer Prize nominated novel by Ernest J. Gaines about institutional injustice and personal redemption.  A LESSON BEFORE DYING will feature UPROOTED’S Tiffany Yvonne Cox.  The reading will be directed by Marti Gobel. Tickets are $10.00. Location: Duncan Entertainment Group - 777 N. Jefferson St. (Staged Reading - one night only)

November 14-18 ~ UPROOTED will present their UPROOTED EXPRESS Workshop when they participate in Lincoln Elementary’s Performing Artist In Residency.  The UPROOTED EXPRESS Workshop will utilize the works of Shel Silverstein and a live enactment of The Lion Sleeps Tonight, accompanied by drumming.

December 4th. 7pm. ~ Angel Performance of BLACK DIAMONDS, an evening of music, monologues and autobiographical stories performed by Marti Gobel.  This is a special event produced exclusively for members of our Angel Program.  Location: Duncan Entertainment Group - 777 N. Jefferson St. in Milwaukee.

February 13, 2012. 7pm. ~ HOODOO LOVE by Katori Hall is a Southern tale of love, secrets and magic. HOODOO LOVE will be directed by Dennis F. Johnson.  Tickets are $10.00.  Location: InTandem Theatre - 628 North 10th Street in Milwaukee.  (Staged Reading - one night only)

March 12-18. ~ World Premier of SOUTH BRIDGE by Reginald Edmund. In SOUTH BRIDGE, Christopher C. Davis, also known as “Stranger,” gets tangled in an affair with a widow.  When she turns up dead, all evidence points to him.  Stranger has to discover the truth before a rope is tied around his neck. Set in Ohio in 1881, this compelling drama is full of twists and surprises.  SOUTH BRIDGE is the winner of the 2010 Southern Playwrights’ Competition, and a runner up for the 2009 Lorraine Hansberry Award and 2009 Rosa Parks National Playwriting Award. SOUTHBRIDGE will be directed by Marti Gobel. Tickets are $15.00  Location: Skylight Studio Theatre at The Broadway Theatre Center: 158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee.

April 23rd. 7pm. ~ OLEANNA by David Mamet.  Inspired by the Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas hearings, Mamet’s play explores the power struggle that erupts between a university professor and his student. “Oleanna is an impassioned response to the Thomas hearings.  As if ripped right from the typewriter, it could not be more direct in its technique or more incendiary in its ambitions.” - Frank Rich, New York Times.  This reading will feature Joseph Hanreddy and Marti Gobel, with direction by Laura Gordon. Tickets are $10.00.  Location: InTandem Theatre  628 North 10th Street in Milwaukee.  (Staged Reading - one night only)

May 24-27, May 31st - June 3rd. ~ World Premier of HAIR, NAILS & DRESS by Caleen Sinnette Jennings.  In HAIR, NAILS & DRESS, Gogo Hale is ready for prom night.  Little does she know that the hair do, nails and dress she’s paid for will turn the Hale house upside down.  HAIR, NAILS & DRESS is a funny and touching play about the romantic, economic and familial strains of contemporary life.  Ms. Jennings (playwright) has been awarded a grant from The Kennedy Center’s Fund for New American Plays, she’s a past winner of The Heideman Award at Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, and a two-time Helen Hays Award nominee.  HAIR, NAILS & DRESS will be directed by Marti Gobel.
